Dilip Vengsarkar and Kapil Dev reveal Dawood Ibrahim visit to Indian Dressing room in Sharjah

Two former Indian cricket players Kapil Dev and Dilip Vengsarkar have admitted that underworld Don Dawood Ibrahim visited to Indian dressing room on 1983 World Cup in Sharjah.

Kapil Dev said a Dubai based business man entered the dressing room, where Kapil Dev was unknown about Dawood's profile.

Dilip vengsarkar stated that Dawood Ibrahim offered a brand new Toyota cars for all the Indian players if they beat Australia, Pakistan and England in the four nation Sharjah cup in April 1987.  Dilip quoted the word of Dawood Ibrahim,
'If you guys win the tournament, I will give all of you a Toyota car each,"
Dilip Vengsarkar went to add that the offer was rejected by him and his team mates.

Incidentally, former BCCI secretary Jaywant Lele, who died last month in Baroda, had also mentioned the incident in his book, 'I was There -- Memoirs of a Cricket Administrator'.

In one of the chapters in his book, he had written: "If the Indian team becomes champion here, I shall present a Toyota car to each team member, including officials, at their doorsteps in India."

Dawood, reportedly, had told Lele and the then India team manager Dyaneshwar Agashe to meet the wealthy industrialist in Sharjah.

After all those incidents Sharjah lost its original charm in the early 1990's when match fixing scandals hit like a thunderstorm to the world of Cricket. Even though it was not proved, Indian government banned the side to play any games at Sharjah.
